Pope Francis appoints Rector Elena Beccalli as consultor to the Dicastery for Culture and Education

Pope Francis has appointed Professor Elena Beccalli, Rector of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore since July 1 as consultor to the Dicastery for Culture and Education. News of the appointment was released Friday, Nov. 1 by the Vatican Press Bulletin.

A Full Professor of Economics of Financial Intermediaries in the School of Banking, Finance and Insurance Sciences, where she has served as Dean since 2014, Elena Beccalli is a research associate of the Centre for Analysis of Risk and Regulation at the London School of Economics (UK), where she was also previously a tutorial fellow, lecturer and visiting professor. She is an academic fellow of the Centre for Responsible Banking & Finance at the University of St Andrews. She has been a visiting professor at the Singapore Institute of Management and the China Center for Economic Research at Peking University.

She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation. She is a member of the expert group on socially responsible investment of the Italian Bishops' Conference. She was coordinator of the path leading to the Document Oeconomicae et pecuniariae quaestiones, promoted by Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Milan. She was a senior expert of the Finance and Humanity Village as part of The Economy of Francis. She was also responsible for drafting the Mensuram Bonam document.

The Dicastery for Culture and Education works for the development of human values in people within the horizon of Christian anthropology, contributing to the full realization of following Jesus Christ. The Dicastery consists of the Section for Culture, which is dedicated to the promotion of culture, pastoral animation and the enhancement of cultural heritage, and the Section for Education, which develops the basic principles of education with reference to schools, Catholic and ecclesiastical higher institutes of study and research and is responsible for hierarchical appeals in these matters.
