The European Journal on Criminal Policy and Research (EJCPR) has been ranked 9th worldwide amongst academic journals in the field of criminology, specifically in the Criminology & Penology category of the latest JCR (Journal Citation Reports) ranking, one of the leading international systems for assessing the quality of academic journals. This places the EJCPR in Q1, meaning it is amongst the top 25% of journals in the field. The ranking is available here.
Since 2003, the journal has been led by Editor-in-Chief Professor Ernesto Ugo Savona, director of the Transcrime Research Centre at Università Cattolica. Under his editorial leadership, the journal has consolidated its position on the international stage and has recently renewed its vision: contributing to the (re)construction of a European identity in criminological research, by transcending national borders and valuing the diversity of the continent’s individual scientific communities.
Professor Savona has also recently been recognised by Springer Nature for having elevated the EJCPR into the top 20% of the publisher’s portfolio in terms of editorial performance and, in 2025, received the European Criminology Award in recognition of his contribution to the field.
The editorial team of the journal also includes Transcrime researchers Deborah Manzi, managing editor, and Michael Lo Giudice, assistant managing editor, who contribute to the development of editorial activities.
